National Conference - Mitigating the Impact of Social & Psychological Trauma to the Social Fabric of the African American Community. October 26-27, 2011

Community Empowerment Association, Inc. in collaboration with Community Care Behavioral Health and a host of representatives of Pittsburgh's service provider organizations, institutions and interested stakeholders, key stakeholders is planning a national conference focused on sharing evidenced-based culturally specific methods for empowering community members and stakeholders to voice their challenges, concerns and expectations, and enlightening public and social services organizations and professionals on how to significantly improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of services and treatment of African American children, youth and families.

A major goal of the conference is to broaden the conversation among stakeholders within the academic, public, private and community sectors (including community residents impacted by trauma) in the key theme areas of: Mental/Physical/Environmental Health, Criminal Justice, Economic Justice and Education, and to begin the process of committing to the development of plans of action and implementation from best practice models introduced and discussed.
